Setup Wizard
The next step is to configure the link to work with ACT! and QuickBooks, to start the process by following the steps below:
- Start QuickBooks and log into your QuickBooks database making sure a company file is opened.
- Start ACT! and logon to your ACT! database; make sure you are logged in with administrator privileges.
When ACT! loads for the first time after installing the link it will run Setup Wizard.
The setup wizard will cover two sections configurations; one is the User Account Control settings and the other is establishing Connection Settings to QuickBooks.
User Account Control Settings
Note: You must be an Act! Admin to configure User Access.
Specify the field in ACT! to store user’s access settings. If this is the first install of the link you will be presented with an option for the Xact Link to create the required field for you - the field will be called "QBAccess".
Notes:
- This field should be used exclusively by the link, do not use or modify the value of this field.
- Creating the new field only needs to be done once; on reinstalling or upgrading the product the same field can/should be reused.
The next step is to configure access for the current ACT user.
Select Yes to configure User Access for yourself.
You may be prompted to enter your password if it was set previously.
Note: When configuring for the first time, make sure User Access is properly setup by granting access to the link functionality, failing to do so will causes the link to be disabled/locked.
For administrative purposes, you might want give yourself (as currently logged in ACT! user) full access to the link; select All access from the Quick preset selection.
Click OK to save and click Next to proceed.
Creating a new link field
This step requires ACT! admin privileges.
Specify the field used to store link record ID. If not previously created (i.e. if this is the first install of the link), you will be presented with an option for the Xact Link to create the required field for you - the field will be called "QBLink".

- This field should be used exclusively by the link, do not use or modify the value of this field.
- Creating the new field only needs to be done once; on reinstalling or upgrading the product the same field can/should be reused.
Click Next to continue.
