Managing XLAM Connectivity with Relation to Backups
When ACT! is integrated to your Accounting data file, a persistent connection is maintained between the two systems; in order to back up your accounting data file properly you need to stop this connection. To ensure that ACT! is no longer connected to your Accounting data file follow these steps:
- Prior to performing a backup, make sure that all the client machines with ACT! and XLAM installed have closed ACT!.
- If ACT! is connected to your accounting data file through IIS then make sure that the Xact Link windows service is stopped; you can do this by going to the machine which is acting as your XLAM server, opening the services screen (Start menu >> Services.msc) and stopping the Xact Link M service.
- If ACT! is connected to your accounting data file through .Net Remoting then ensure that the XLAM remoting server application is stopped and then closed.
- Perform your backup then restart any services / application as needed and lastly start ACT!.
